we
are a club of about 120 members with a following of model flyers
of all disciplines. We have turbine pilots. aerobatic pilots
and scale model pilots. We have members who prefer electric
flight but can sometimes be found flying an ic power model. Gliders feature on occasions when we have a 'silent
flight day'. A good few of our members will also be found on
the local slopes as well.
Club nights are held on the first
Thursday of each month, which provide a forum for the discussion
of model aviation topics. Guest speakers and trade representatives
are sometimes invited to demonstrate a particular skill or talk on
subjects of general interest. we do however, rely heavily on our
club members to provide a demonstration subject
on club nights.
Our
flying sites have unrestricted access with car parking close to
the pits. We are a noise conscious but not noise sensitive site
and this enables our members to fly the complete range of model
types from electric to ducted fan and turbine powered models. Some
of our members take an active part in national and local fly-ins
and competitions.
The Society operates a Basic Flying
Training Scheme for fixed wing power models aimed at newcomers to
radio control flying. The Society is affiliated to the
British Model Flying Association which is the body that looks
after the interests of aeromodellers in Great Britain. Flying
activities within the Society will always conform to the
guidelines set out in the BMFA Safety Code and in the Air
Navigation Orders.
