Jim Hobden’s Lazy Bee

Neville Polley’s tug on a summer evening

We will have a possible visit by Manny Williamson from the BMFA.  He has been to our clubnight several years ago and he will be able to answer many of your questions about BMFA policy and procedures.  He will also bring us up to date with current BMFA thinking.

If Manny is unable to attend then Paul Goddard has indicated that he will give a presentation to the meeting on his collection of elderly engines and how he brought them ‘back to life’.

Following the new committee’s 1st meeting of the 2012 season, we now have a list of events that we hope to hold throughout the year.  These have been entered on the appropriate pages of the website but at this early stage we may need to tweak the lists slightly.  We have added a new event this year that of Retro Model Fly In and a 3d event.  We will see how they fare.

Next Club Night

We are a club of about 120 members with a site  situated between Abingdon and Wantage in Oxfordshire. We have turbine pilots. aerobatic pilots and scale model pilots.  We have members who prefer electric flight  but can sometimes be found flying an IC power model.   Gliders feature on occasions when we have a 'silent flight day'.  A good few of our members can also be found on the local slopes.

Club nights are held on the first Thursday of each month, when we try to arrange an activity or guest speakers are invited whenever possible. Sometimes our own membership will demonstrate a particular skill or talk on subjects of general interest to members.

Our flying site has unrestricted access, 24 hours per day and 365 days per year, with car parking very close to the pits.

We are a noise conscious but not noise sensitive site and this enables our members to fly the complete range of model types from electric to ducted fan and turbine powered models. Turbines require ‘B’ certificates and your flying skills will be checked by an appointed jet flyer before you can fly a jet. Some of our members take an active part in various fly-ins.

The Society operates a Basic Flying Training Scheme for fixed wing power and a buddy box scheme for helicopters has begun.
