Jim Hobden’s Lazy Bee

Neville Polley’s tug on a summer evening

Our club evenings move away from the Legion Hall for the next 3 clubnights. The next one is as shown above and will be a Bar B Que and a general club flyin.  The Bar B Que will need to be organised by yourselves but the club kit is available for use.  It is fired by Calor Gas and all that is needed is a means to ignite the gas.  You will need to bring your own food for cooking and any drinks that may be required together with any sauces etc.  Just make sure it is all put back from where it came. None of the committee are involved in the organisation of the Bar B Que so don’t wait expecting it all to be done for you!

General club flying is the order of the evening and will follow pretty much the same format as club Sunday flying.  So fly as much as you like or just stand around and chat as happens on most Sundays, all we need is for you to enjoy yourselves.

Next Club Night

We are a club of about 120 members with a site  situated between Abingdon and Wantage in Oxfordshire. We have turbine pilots. aerobatic pilots and scale model pilots.  We have members who prefer electric flight  but can sometimes be found flying an IC power model.   Gliders feature on occasions when we have a 'silent flight day'.  A good few of our members can also be found on the local slopes.

Club nights are held on the first Thursday of each month, when we try to arrange an activity or guest speakers are invited whenever possible. Sometimes our own membership will demonstrate a particular skill or talk on subjects of general interest to members.

Our flying site has unrestricted access, 24 hours per day and 365 days per year, with car parking very close to the pits.

We are a noise conscious but not noise sensitive site and this enables our members to fly the complete range of model types from electric to ducted fan and turbine powered models. Turbines require ‘B’ certificates and your flying skills will be checked by an appointed jet flyer before you can fly a jet. Some of our members take an active part in various fly-ins.

The Society operates a Basic Flying Training Scheme for fixed wing power and a buddy box scheme for helicopters has begun.
